{"id":382,"date":"2012-07-02T08:27:21","date_gmt":"2012-07-02T12:27:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rossweb.bus.umich.edu\/academics\/academics\/working-students-disabilities\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T12:54:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T16:54:57","slug":"working-students-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rossweb.bus.umich.edu\/academics\/studentresources\/working-students-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Working with Students with Disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Office of the General Counsel and the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) recommends that all faculty include a disability inclusion statement (<a href=\"https:\/\/myumi.ch\/8rNmZ\">SSD Recommended Syllabi Statement<\/a>) in their course syllabi and review the statement during the first class period.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accommodations for Students with Disabilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ross School of Business is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs, services and activities. Students wishing to receive disability-related&nbsp; accommodations must connect with the University of Michigan <a href=\"http:\/\/ssd.umich.edu\/\">Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)<\/a> office and complete the process as soon as possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students approved for accommodations must submit their Accommodation Letter at the start of each semester through the electronic portal called <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/umich-accommodate.symplicity.com\/\"><strong><em>Accommodate<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. This can be done using the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssd.umich.edu\/article\/submitting-semester-requests\">Semester Request<\/a> feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must submit their official Accommodation Letter from the SSD office to their instructor <strong>prior<\/strong> to needing the accommodations as accommodations are not retroactively applied.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty will make a good faith effort to implement accommodations. Testing accommodation arrangements are not guaranteed for students who provide less than one weeks\u2019 notice. In some situations, like finals, more notice might be necessary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In rare cases, the need for a testing accommodation arises within a shorter turnaround time (example: a broken wrist). In these cases, the student should contact the SSD office but accommodations may not be able to be implemented.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions about how your accommodations will be implemented in a specific course can be directed first to your instructor.
