{"id":506,"date":"2016-01-26T16:30:35","date_gmt":"2016-01-26T21:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rossweb.bus.umich.edu\/academics\/academics\/bsi\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T11:49:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T15:49:05","slug":"bsi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rossweb.bus.umich.edu\/academics\/dual-degrees-minors-special-programs\/bba-dual\/bsi\/","title":{"rendered":"Information\/BBA Dual Degree"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I.&nbsp;<a href=\"#Degree Requirements\">Degree Requirements<\/a><br>II.&nbsp; <a href=\"#Degree Details\">Degree Details<\/a><br>III.&nbsp; <a href=\"#Advising\">Advising<\/a><br>IV.&nbsp; <a href=\"#Degree Forms\">Degree Forms<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifics regarding dual degrees with the School of Information&nbsp;and the Ross School of Business appear below.&nbsp; For more general information about dual degrees, including overall dual degree requirements and application procedures, please refer to Ross&#8217;s web pages for&nbsp;<a href=\"\/academics\/bba-dual\/prospective\">Prospective Students<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"\/academics\/bba-dual\/applicants\">Applicants<\/a>,&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"\/academics\/bba-dual\/declared\">Declared Dual Degree Students<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"Degree Requirements\" name=\"Degree Requirements\"><\/a>I.&nbsp;&nbsp;Degree Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students pursuing a dual degree must apply and be accepted to <em>both<\/em> the Ross BBA and Bachelors of Science in Information programs.<\/strong>   <strong>Students must be in good academic standing in order to pursue dual degrees.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Complete all BBA degree requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>62 business credits (61 for students who entered the BBA program in Fall 2022 or Fall 2023 as First Year students or Fall 2023 or Fall 2024 as Sophomores),<span style=\"font-size: revert; color: var(--global-palette4);\"> including fixed and floating core classes, capstone, and electives (<\/span><a style=\"font-size: revert;\" href=\"\/academics\/core\/BBA#2014\">see curriculum<\/a><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: var(--global-palette4);\">)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>54 non-business credits&nbsp;<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p><u><strong>Three<\/strong><\/u>&nbsp;of four distribution area requirements. &nbsp;Refer to the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lsa.umich.edu\/cg\">LSA&nbsp;Course Guide<\/a> to see if a course meets the requirements for a distribution area. &nbsp;Ross does not accept AP&nbsp;credits towards distribution.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><p>Humanities Distribution (HU): 9 credits<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Natural Sciences (NS) and\/or Mathematical and Symbolic Analysis (MSA): 9 credits<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Social Sciences (SS): 9 credits (<strong>excluding Econ 101 &amp; 102<\/strong>)<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Foreign Language Proficiency: Fourth-term proficiency in a foreign language is determined by successful completion of a proficiency examination administered by UM, or by completion of a fourth-semester college-level foreign language course. AP&nbsp;coursework which meets fourth-term proficiency fulfills this requirement. See the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/content\/dam\/lsa-site-assets\/documents\/saa-documents\/course-bulletin\/LSA%20Bulletin%202017-18.pdf\">LSA&nbsp;Bulletin<\/a>&nbsp;for further details.<\/p>  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Complete all Information&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.umich.edu\/programs\/bachelor-science-information\/curriculum\">degree requirements<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>54 SI credits minimum (all completed SI courses will count towards this requirement) (all courses must be taken for a letter grade and achieve a C- or higher with the exception of SI 210, SI 300, and SI 390)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition to the credit requirements listed above, BSI students must complete:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prerequisite courses\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SI 101<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FY Writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BSI Core courses &#8211; 15 credits\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SI 110<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SI 201<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SI 300<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SI 310<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SI 261<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BSI Curricular Path (chosen in consultation with SI academic advisor)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please consult with a School of Information academic advisor for complete details regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QG0qEvQiFQuDAQmlZJXDJJ7pn08Q8JG-Fd9qwouuyf0\/edit?tab=t.0\">Information\u00a0requirements<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maintain minimum GPA requirements (check with your advisor in both schools for minimum requirements).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Complete 150 total credits (minimum). &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"det\"><\/a><a id=\"Degree Details\" name=\"Degree Details\"><\/a>II.&nbsp;&nbsp;Degree Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><p>Students may&nbsp;select either the Ross School of Business or the School of Information&nbsp;as their home school.&nbsp;&nbsp;There are several things to consider when choosing a home school.&nbsp; Please review the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1I9Vdhh0RNj8uxc-IwrW-8zQs1bQbe0eC7a8qlFQUvB8\/edit?usp=sharing\">Home School FAQ document<\/a>&nbsp;for more information and reach out to a dual degree advisor if you have further questions.<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Students pursuing dual degrees may share a maximum of 15.0 credits of business courses needed to meet BBA degree requirements towards the requirements of the non-business major, per approval.<\/p><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Students pursuing an academic minor may share a&nbsp;maximum&nbsp;of 3.0 credits of business courses needed to meet BBA requirements towards the requirements of the academic minor.<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Consult with your academic advisor(s) for specific policies within your non-business major or minor.<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Students will not graduate until an advisor from&nbsp;<u>each<\/u>&nbsp;degree program confirms completion of all necessary degree requirements.<\/p> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"adv\"><\/a><a id=\"Advising\" name=\"Advising\"><\/a>III.&nbsp;&nbsp;Advising<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><p>BBA degree advising is provided by a dual degree advisor in the Ross Office of Undergraduate Programs.<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Information&nbsp;advising is provided by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.umich.edu\/programs\/bachelor-science-information\/connect-us\">School of Information&nbsp;advisor<\/a>.<\/p> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Students will not graduate until an advisor from&nbsp;<u>each<\/u>&nbsp;degree program confirms completion of all necessary degree requirements.<\/p> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"form\"><\/a><a id=\"Degree Forms\" name=\"Degree Forms\"><\/a>IV.&nbsp;&nbsp;Degree Forms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download and complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rossweb.bus.umich.edu\/academics\/degree-status\/degree-requirements\/\">degree checklist and course planning tool<\/a>&nbsp;to determine how and when you will complete your dual degrees:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students admitted as BBA First Year and Preferred Admission should scroll down to the Undergraduate section and select the template designated for \u201cStudents admitted as First Years\u201d for their appropriate year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students admitted as Sophomores (Transfer &amp;
