Giving Blueday is the university’s annual day of giving, and is a day when students, alumni, staff, faculty, and friends of the university can support and raise awareness for causes across the U-M community. It is also a day when individual contributions can make the biggest impact with a number of matching incentives from the university.

Giving Blueday at Michigan Ross is spearheaded by the Office of Advancement, which supports the educational priorities of the school by cultivating meaningful relationships with alumni and the community, and facilitating fundraising and gift opportunities for Michigan Ross. The advancement team started planning for Giving Blueday six months in advance in collaboration with the university’s Office of Development and other schools and colleges across campus.

“Giving Blueday is a fruitful opportunity to highlight the breadth and depth of excellence across the school,” said Melissa Cox, director of division support and annual giving, Office of Advancement. “As such, we observed a fantastic donor turnout, yielding 49% more donors than the previous year.”

Overall, more than 375 donors supported 13 different causes at Michigan Ross. Of those donors, more than 75 were faculty and staff members. Overall, Giving Blueday donations this year totaled $88,008 in support. The funds raised will go towards scholarships, initiatives, and centers and institutes at Michigan Ross.

“We are particularly grateful for the 75+ faculty and staff members who donated on Giving Blueday. Moreover, this scholarship aims to increase the accessibility and diversity of corporate leadership.

Every dollar donated to the Master of Management Opportunity Scholarship will be given to benefit a future MM student. The scholarship is given yearly to a student from an underrepresented background, with an emphasis on students from local Detroit communities, first-generation students, and students who are especially committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the class’s dedication to this effort,” said Kaci Kegler, director, One Year Master’s Programs. “Their vision for increasing the diversity of future cohorts and the tireless work they put into this is both staggering and inspiring. They’re leaving an incredible legacy for future classes to follow and truly making an impact at Ross and in the lives of future recipients.”

Black Business Undergraduate Society Scholarship Fund
$5,198 raised | 59 donors

Each year, the Black Business Undergraduate Society provides one student with a $5,000 scholarship that contributes to the cost of tuition at Michigan Ross. The scholarship is awarded to a BBUS member that has demonstrated exceptional community involvement and academic achievement. Through Giving Blueday this year, BBUS exceeded their goal and raised more than enough to sponsor that scholarship.

Center for Positive Organizations Fund
$1,680 raised | 21 donors

The Center for Positive Organizations at Michigan Ross creates learning programs for U-M students that focus on the principles and practices that help build high-performing, sustainable organizations.

Over the years, demand for CPO’s programming has grown. While current offerings provide undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students with many opportunities to engage with the community and impactful organizations, donations made on Giving Blueday will help CPO to expand their repertoire and give a greater number of students access to new and engaging programs.

Business+Tech Fund
$1,596 raised | 19 donors

The mission of Business+Tech at Michigan Ross is to build a stronger and more connected tech community at the University of Michigan and beyond. Donations to Business+Tech on Giving Blueday will sponsor two students’ trips to the 2023 AFROTECH Conference, a major tech conference for the Black community and those who support Black advancement.
