\n\tThe following will detail how to install and use the Virtual Lab Client for Mac. Please be sure you are running Mac OS X 10.6 or higher (Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion).\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIf you’ve already installed the client and just need a refresher about how to connect, scroll down to the “Running the Virtual Lab Client” section.

\n\tDownloading the Installer
\n<\/h2>\n

\n\tDownload the Ross Virtual Lab for Mac installation file by right-clicking the button below, and choosing “Save As…”\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOnce the file is downloaded, navigate to your Downloads folder and double-click on the file to begin the installation.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Installation Process
\n<\/h2>\n

\n\tNOTE: You’ll need administrator privileges to your computer for this installation to work.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t1)  After double-clicking the file to begin the installation process, you should be presented with a license agreement; click Agree to agree with the terms.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t2)  Drag and drop the VMware View Client <\/em>icon to the Applications <\/em>folder icon.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t3)  When the software has finished copying, be sure you are still within the “VMware View Client” window, and open the File menu and click on “Eject VMware View Client.”\n<\/p>\n

\n\t4)  Click on the Go menu and open the Applications folder.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"\"\n<\/p>\n

\n\t5)  Drag and drop the “VMware View Client” from the Applications folder to the OSX Dock. (Sometimes the icon will appear to be “crossed out…” this is normal, though rare, and can be safely ignored. It will fix itself.)\n<\/p>\n

\n\t6)  Once the icon is on your Dock, you may close the Applications window and click the “VMware View Client” icon on the dock to open the software. The first time you do so, it will stop and ask you if you’re sure you want to open the application; click “Open.”\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRunning the Virtual Lab Client
\n<\/h2>\n

\n\t1)  Click the icon as it appears on the Dock to open the application.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t2)  In the window that opens, click the cloud icon (“Add Server”).\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"\"\n<\/p>\n

\n\t3)  Enter the hostname <\/em>as shown below, vlab.bus.umich.edu. Then, click “Continue.”\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"\"\n<\/p>\n

\n\t4)  You will see the message “Connecting to the View Connection Server…”\n<\/p>\n

\n\t5)  Once that finishes, you’ll be prompted to enter your username and password. Use your uniqname and UM password, choosing UMROOT as the domain.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t6)  Once it connects, double-click the “Ross Virtual Lab” icon.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t7) After a brief wait, you may be prompted with a Ross School of Business “NOTICE” screen. Read the notice and click OK to continue, and you will be connected to the virtual computer.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThings to Remember

  • \n\t\tThough you may be running a Mac OS, connecting through the Virtual Lab client connects you to a Windows computer.\n\t<\/li>\n
  • \n\t\tThis is a “virtualized” computer that you’re using. It does not have a true physical component and is a means to use software that you may not have a personal license to.\n\t<\/li>\n
  • \n\t\tEach time you connect using the Virtual Lab software, you may not be connected to the same “virtual” computer.\n\t<\/li>\n
  • \n\t\tTherefore, be careful when saving documents and files. Do not save them directly to the computer itself.
