\n\tThe following is offered as a resource for those faculty or staff members who wish to directly connect to a specific networked printer.\n<\/p>\n

  1. \n\t\tClick the Start button, and type the following: \\\\bus-print1\\<\/tt>
    \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
  2. \n\t\tA window will appear with the list of available networked printers. Identify the one to which you wish to connect, and double-click its icon.
    \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
  3. \n\t\tWait a moment while Windows installs the printer.
    \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
  4. \n\t\tYou may be prompted with a security warning. Click "Install driver" to proceed.
    \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
  5. \n\t\tWhen installation is complete, a new window will appear. Most likely, it will be empty. This is the queue for that particular printer, which is indication that the printer has been successfully installed. It will now appear in the "Devices and Printers" control panel. (As usual, right-clicking it will open a menu that allows you to set it as the default printer if you wish to do so.)

    \n\tNote: you must install the driver for the printer before following these steps. You can find printer drivers from the manufacturer's website.<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

    1. \n\t\tOpen the "System Preferences," and click on "Print & Scan."
      \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
    2. \n\t\tIn the window that appears, click the + icon and select "Add Other Printer or Scanner…"
      \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
    3. \n\t\tClick the "Advanced" cogwheel, and select "Windows printer via spoolss" from the "Type:" dropdown menu.
      \n\t\t\"\"\n\t<\/li>\n
    4. \n\t\tEnter the URL as seen in the screenshot above: smb:\/\/bus-print1.adsroot.itcs.umich.edu\/printer-name<\/tt>, replacing printer-name<\/i> with the actual printer name, something like BUS-EE2-12<\/i>.\n\t<\/li>\n
    5. \n\t\tErase what is in the "Name:" field, and type in the printer name, or something that you will remember.\n\t<\/li>\n
    6. \n\t\tSelect the necessary driver from the "Print Using:" field, and click Add.  The printer will now show up in your list of printers.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
