Juneteenth 2024

A huge thank you to the Black @ Ross Employee Resource Group for hosting the Juneteenth celebration on June 19 in the Corner Commons. Juneteenth is a day of restoration, recognition, and reflection, and we had a great turnout with food, fellowship, music, games, giveaways, and more!

On Jan. 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which stated that all persons held as slaves in rebellious states shall be set free. Despite this, slavery continued in Texas. The proclamation only took effect there in 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that all the enslaved people were set free. Now, we remember and celebrate June 19 as a day of freedom and emancipation.

Below are some photos from the event.
