Green Clean FAQ

Q: Does it really take 150-200 volunteers to make Green Clean happen? and d
A: We need 150-200 volunteers to work two-hour shifts moving recycling & trash carts, sorting paper, and organizing the ReUse Room.

Q: Does volunteering to work in my own office/area count towards those numbers?
A: Volunteering to work in your own office area is wonderful and necessary for the rest of the day, but doing that is not included in the volunteer hours needed to make the day happen.

Q: If I volunteer to work a shift, when will I clean out my office area?
A: Each volunteer shift is two hours – that leaves the rest of the day to work on cleaning your office and community areas! This is an all-day event.

Q: Well, since it’s an all-day event, can I volunteer to work more than one 2-hour shift?
A: Of course! Volunteers will not be turned down.

Q: I’d really prefer to just clean my own area – do I still need to register?
A: Yes! You must still sign up here to receive the free lunch and Green Clean t-shirt.

Q: Why should I volunteer and participate?
A: Green Clean is an opportunity to clean your personal work and community areas and provides an opportunity to bring the entire Ross community together. It’s a chance for departments to clean out surplus supplies, while sharing with other units in need. Plus, let’s be honest – it’s a fun day with co-workers from across the school and a chance to step away from your desk and/or normal daily activities, and a great opportunity to get to know others better! Consider it a day to network while you work.

Q: What’s the attire for the day?
A: The Green Clean t-shirts will be available for pick-up before the event, but only if you sign up for a shirt, of course! Please wear your Green Clean t-shirt and comfortable pants and shoes, such as jeans (no holes please) and sneakers, etc.

Q: What is the ReUse Room?
A: Think: an office-supply thrift store but free of charge! During Green Clean you can send any useable office items that you and your office no longer need down to the ReUse room. The ReUse room location will be announced prior to the event and will be open and available for “shopping” for at least a week after Green Clean Day. NOTE: The items taken from the ReUse room are still UM property and therefore must be used on-site, and not for your personal use at home, etc.

Q: I’m having trouble remembering the name “Green Clean.” Any tips?
A: Try thinking of the Green Lantern and Mr. Clean. We’re saving the world by making things green and clean!
