Affinity Club Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an Affinity Club?
    • An affinity club is a specific type of alumni club at Michigan Ross that is united around a shared identity or interest. Examples include but are not limited to: race, veterans status, industry, etc. Affinity Clubs differ from traditional alumni clubs in that members hail from all regions of the world, and club boards are required to have officers from different regions.
  • Do I have to identify with a certain affinity to join that club?
    • No! Members of affinity clubs are united by their shared interest in the affairs concerning those of that affinity. By no means is it assumed or required that affinity club members explicitly identify with the uniting affinity.
  • What is the purpose of an affinity club and why should I join one?
    • Affinity clubs are designed to bring together individuals from all regions that share a common interest or affinity. These individuals can collectively benefit from both the alumni resources of Michigan Ross and also the success of the peers that affinity clubs allow them to come into contact with.
  • How many people are usually in affinity clubs?
    • The minimum number of members for affinity clubs is 100. However, we have clubs ranging from 100 all the way to 1000 members.
  • What are the responsibilities of affinity club members?
    • Affinity club members are typically expected to attend one of the two (or more) events that are held in person each year, and regularly participate in any other activities that may take place in the club. However, specific requirements are determined by club officers themselves.
  • How can I unsubscribe from Affinity Club notifications?
    • Club officers can unsubscribe any member who wishes by logging into the affinity club’s website and doing the following:
      • Clicking on the “Member” tab
      • Searching for the specific member who wishes to be unsubscribed
      • Clicking on their name, and changing email preferences to ‘opt out’
