AI Helper: A New U-M Tool for Crafting Effective Prompts
The University of Michigan community continues to expand its suite of campus-wide AI resources, and a new tool from the College of Engineering adds another helpful option to the mix. AI Helper is designed to guide users in building strong, well-structured prompts for a wide variety of AI tasks. Whether you’re drafting emails, summarizing documents, exploring coding assistance, or shaping more complex workflows, AI Helper provides scaffolded suggestions that help you get clearer, more consistent results.
What sets this tool apart is its focus on supporting everyday users—no prior experience with prompt engineering required. By walking through intent, structure, and context, AI Helper makes it easier for anyone at U-M to translate their goals into effective AI queries.
This new offering is available to the U-M community, and aligns with our broader effort to strengthen AI literacy and responsible use across the university. Ross IT has been collaborating with our colleagues in the College of Engineering on AI initiatives, sharing expertise, testing tools, and comparing implementation approaches as AI services continue to evolve quickly across campus.
AI Helper joins a growing ecosystem of U-M AI resources that Ross IT has been highlighting throughout the year—from practical exercises with Google Gemini to guidance on getting started with U-M AI Services and hands-on learning sessions focused on applied use cases. This new tool adds another accessible starting point for anyone looking to build confidence and skill in working with AI.
Members of the Ross community are encouraged to explore AI Helper, experiment with its prompt-building guidance, and incorporate it into their daily academic or operational workflows. As the landscape of AI at U-M continues to grow, we’re committed to sharing updates, collaborating across units, and helping Ross users make the most of these emerging capabilities.
