Attending a class remotely

Attending Office Hours and discussions remotely

Your instructor holds Office Hours or an outside of class discussion via videoconferencing:Your instructor will provide you a link in Canvas or via email to Zoom. Video conferencing with Zoom allows for medium and small size courses to meet virtually. Tools include: chat, whiteboard, screen sharing, annotation tool, breakout rooms, file sharing. How to conduct Research remotely

Connect to university research resources:A U-M Virtual Private Network (VPN) is required to access the Great Lakes HPC Cluster,
Access research data storage:Contact ARC-TS at hpc-support@umich.edu to arrange alternative access to your data if you cannot access data stored on Turbo Research Storage, Locker Large-File Storage, or Data Den Research Archive.
Data transfer:For reliable file transfers with or without VPN, use Globus File Transfer to access your research data. Globus is supported on the Great Lakes HPC Cluster, Lighthouse HPC Cluster, ConFlux, and the ThunderX Cluster. For other systems continue to use scp/sftp or other supported transfer. Contact hpc-support@umich.edu for help.

How Students attend class Remotely

Attend class remotely:If you need to attend class remotely, check with your instructor. You may be asked to join lectures in real time via Zoom or in Canvas.
University software:Most software provided in the Campus Computing Sites can also be accessed from personal or university devices using Virtual Sites or Apps Anywhere.
General tips for learning and studying remotely:Download the Canvas app to view class materials and participate online from your mobile device. The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
