Undergraduate Academic and General BBA Resources

It’s important to be proactive about reaching out for help and assistance when you need it – and even when you don’t. We find that successful students take advantage of resources even when they are doing well, and not just when things aren’t going as they had hoped. Take time to get familiar with the resources available and reach out to your instructors and academic advisor if you have questions.

General Resources
  • Office Hours:
    • In all of your courses, the instructors will offer office hours throughout the semester. Don’t wait until the day before an exam – go early and often to ask questions and to get to know your instructor. Check the syllabus for the days and times.

Tips for Online Learning:

Some Other Tips from Advisors:

  • Check your email every day. UM faculty and staff will use your Umich email address to communicate important information to you.
  • If possible, try to maintain a schedule. Make sure that you schedule time to attend/listen to lectures and work on assignments as you were while in class on campus.
  • Adjust your study habits.  What worked for in-person classes may not work for online coursework.  Check out this helpful study resource page put together by UM Academic Innovation.
  • Ask for help.  Reach out to your instructors with any questions you have about course material and how to best prepare for exams/assessments.  It can take longer to master content taught in an online format – staying in good communication with your instructors is important.
  • Be aware of course expectations.  Some online courses will allow collaboration or the use of outside resources/material during assignments/exams while others may not.  Check with your instructor on their expectations for the course and be sure to ask if their policy is unclear.
  • Limit your distractions.  Try to separate your learning/study space from friends, family members, pets, etc. that may distract you from your material.
  • Take breaks! It’s important to make sure you are taking care of your mental, physical, and emotional health during this time of great transition. Taking intentional breaks throughout your day will help you to re-focus and re-energize!
