I. WHAT SUPPLEMENTAL STUDIES PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE FOR BBA STUDENTS?

Approved Supplemental Studies programs include:

The Fundamentals of Public Health Supplemental Studies (FPHSS) program is a 10-credit course sequence providing students who do not intend to complete the new undergraduate degree in Public Health a formal academic structure through which they will gain an understanding of the evolution and mission of the field of public health, as well as an appreciation of its key methods and applications.

The Supplemental Studies in Public Policy (SSPP) program is a 10-credit course sequence for students outside of the BA program in Public Policy.  This program provides an opportunity to acquire a formal specialization in the fundamental and broadly applicable skills of policy analysis, as well as appreciation of key methods and skills necessary to analyze critical social problems.

If a student declared the SSPP program prior to December 11, 2019, and completed PUBPOL 201 by Fall 2019, they may remain in the SSPP program and receive the certificate upon completion of requirements.  These students may also apply to the Minor in Public Policy, but there is no guaranteed acceptance based on their SSPP participation.  If accepted, students will become members of the Minor in Public Policy and be removed from the SSPP program.  If not accepted, students can remain in the SSPP program.

If a student did not complete PUBPOL 201 by Fall 2019, they will not be able to complete the SSPP program but they are invited to learn more about and apply for the Minor in Public Policy. 

Open exclusively to top-performing undergraduate students at UM, the Graham Undergraduate Sustainability Scholars program engages 60 students per year in action-based learning courses and co-curricular activities that foster systems thinking skills and leadership development for sustainability.

II. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW IF I AM INTERESTED IN A SUPPLEMENTAL STUDIES PROGRAM?

For students admitted to Supplemental Studies programs effective Winter 2014 and later, no courses may be shared between the requirements for a Supplemental Studies program and the 58.0 business credits required for the BBA degree.  Students admitted to Supplemental Studies programs prior to Winter 2014 may share one course (3.0 credits) maximum between the requirements for a Supplemental Studies program and the 58.0 business credits required for the BBA degree.

Students should discuss plans to pursue a Supplemental Studies program with the applicable program as well as with their academic advisor.
